Poetry with John Holdridge (2nd grade)
December 7, 8 & 10, 2009

John Holdridge
John Holdridge is a creative literacy specialist who has worked with
Pre-K-12th grade, undergraduate and graduate students, professional
teachers, and artists throughout New England. He works as a teaching
artist and professional development facilitator in and around schools and
teaches Creative Literacy: Building Literacy Through the Arts at the
University of Southern Maine. At Fairview and East Auburn Elementary
schools John will engage students in a process of creating and sharing
original poetry that includes reading, writing, and performing original
and published work. For older students the focus can be on creating poetry
of understanding of subject matter that is currently being studied.
Younger students will focus on active and interesting prompts that
encourage them to play with language. In all cases students will be
encouraged to “think like a poet” and to present their poems in a low
pressure poetry cafe at the end of the residency.
