Tell us about your work:

I am originally from Chad, located in central Africa. I moved to the US in 2014 to seek asylum and get a better life. For me, art is a way to escape depression and anxiety. I started painting when I moved to the US because back home, I couldn’t afford to purchase paints. When I first started painting, a lot of people used to hate on me because they thought my art was only of girls. I even lost some friends due to paintings. Luckily, my family was a huge support, which pushed me to keep chasing my dream. When I sold my first art piece in 2016, I felt like the whole world was clapping for me and cheering me on! Since then, I’ve never stopped painting. I’ve more than 50 paintings hanging in my room.
